In 1972, Ishida developed a multihead weigher using a computation technique capable of packaging fixed quantities of snacks and other items of irregular weights and shapes. This revolutionary machine had a tremendous impact on the packaging industry.
What is Multihead weigher?
Items are placed in each weigh hopper, and the weight signal is transmitted to the built-in computer. The computer calculates the combinations of items that come closest to the desired weight, and the combination of the items closest is ejected from the hopper. The computer continuously repeats this process.
The multihead weigher is so efficient as it can examine 1,023 possible patters more than 200 times per minute in order to select combinations of items of appropriate weights.

Checkweigher dynamically checks the weight of product on conveyor in order to detect improper weight product and reject.
- The checkweigher weighs the product during the product passing on weigh conveyor.
- In case the weight result is under/ over the set tolerance, the product is automatically rejected from production line.
Variety rejection systems are available depending on product shapes and weights.
Ishida IX Series is a system for detecting foreign objects intermixed in food and other products by X-raying the products as they move along a conveyor.
Metallic objects and bone, shell, gravel, glass, resin, rubber and other foreign objects can be detected. Moreover, foreign objects inside aluminum packaging and metal cans can be detected.
Principles of X-ray inspection
- X-rays are produced by anode targets with thermo electrons from cathode filaments inside an X-ray tube.
- The radiated X-rays pass through the food product to be inspected and a line sensor is subjected to the transmitted X-rays.
- The X-ray transmission received by the line sensor is converted to electric signals.
- An image processing system converts the signals to x-ray transparent images and processes that image with Ishida's original 5-level processing technology to detect contamination and defection of product.
